Meet Susan
As a lifelong resident of Frederick County, I have a deep desire to serve the citizens of Frederick County and feel I have the background and to serve as an Orphans' Court Judge with compassion and common sense.
I have spent decades working with internal and external clients, solving problems, getting things done, and would bring this experience to the court. I can talk and work with anyone in a civil and professional manner, and the citizens of Frederick County deserve representatives that can do this.
Growing up I worked on our families farm growing lots of produce every summer. Working on the farm with my family made me really appreciate how important agricultural is to this county then and now. I am a proud graduate of the Frederick County Public School system-Gov Thomas Johnson HS, and found my love for science in 10th grade Biology. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and MBA from Hood College. My professional background includes working as a scientist at the start of my career, including six years on the Fort Detrick campus, and then spent the next 25+ years on the business side of science. I recently retired from working with the military in infectious disease and vaccine development, in support of military health.
My background also includes experience in economic development and my husband opened a small business in the City of Frederick in 1985. So I also understand the struggles small business owners face on a daily basis.
I have been married to Lawrence Jessee for 41 years, have two grown children Matthew and Emily, and live in Middletown. I served on the Fire and Rescue Advisory Board, on the Friends of Meals on Wheels Board, was an original board member of the Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. (FITCI), served on the client selection committee at FITCI from 2004-2011, and was on the MdBio Program Committee with the Tech Council of Maryland. I also volunteered in many different things while my kids were in school as any proud mom would do. If elected, I would bring my passion for listening to the concerns of those that I would serve in this role as a Judge for the Orphans' Court.
